You may be writing blogs for quite a while now but there are still so many people that make the same common mistakes. These mistakes stand in the way of increasing your page views and potentially earning more than what you actually deserve. Here are some very important rules you must follow to go from beginner blogging level to a professional one.
1. Narrow down your audience
One mistake many bloggers do is write general content. This is fine but there already are hundreds of other blogs on t he same topic. Keep your content unique that concentrates on a specific audience and you’ll see how productive your blog is.
2. Post consistently
Come up with a blog posting schedule and stick to it. It may be once every week or twice a month, but it should be regular. If you write for a month and disappear the next, you’ll have to start all over again in terms of gathering an audience.
3. Include links
Provide ling to other blogs and websites that provide additional information about your topic. This will increase clicks on your website and in turn, increase your blog’s search engine rankings.
4. Build a relationship
Not only do you need to establish a relationship with your followers, but with fellow bloggers as well. By doing this you can increase your followers and expose yourself to the blogging community.
5. Focus on quality
The goal should always be to write the best content possible. This may not happen right away but it must be a goal you intend to achieve soon. Focus on quality even if it means writing a post only once a week.
6. Include images
Even though people come for information through text, visuals greatly help concepts that can’t be explained through words. For examples, you may add a graph if you’re talking about some statistics.
7. Use the comments section
Always have comments section with your blog post and make sure you use it to interact with the people. Not every comment needs a response but this is a great way to know what others are thinking.
8. Perfect grammar
Write as if you invented the English language. Having good grammar and an error-free blog shows that you’re a professional. Use online grammar tools for help and become a successful blogger overnight.
9. Use headings
Many people tend to ignore a lot of the data when reading. Even when watching news, they tend to only watch the headlines. Use headings to allow readers to quickly scan through your article and pick the important points.
10. Be yourself
If you visit blogs of successful bloggers, you’ll notice that each is different from the other. Keep your blog unique which will show that you are someone with your ow personality and you’re not just copying someone else.
You may steal ideas from other but make sure you don’t copy their content exactly. If you want to use their work, credit them for it.
12. Stealing photos
Downloading photos from Google and using it seems simple but can be a crime. Instead, use alternate free resources.
13. Be negative
Keep your blog posts inspirational and motivational and keep supporting your readers.
14. Long paragraphs
Long texts seem boring and are hard for people to digest. Make sure you avoid this by dividing your work into headings.
15. Having a limited word count
If you have information that exceeds your usual word count, don’t be afraid to go a little extra.
16. Unrealistic goals
Having unrealistic goals will only demotivate you when you see that you’re unable to reach them. Keep your goals short and achievable.
Never be afraid to take risks. Always try out something new; perhaps that will be the one that makes your blog.
18. Be stingy
Share as much as you can without the jealousy that someone will become better than you.
19. Be spammy
If people think you’re blogging for yourself, no one will follow you in the long run.
20. High expectations
Blogging takes a lot of work and if you have high expectation too early, it may lead to disappointment.
There is no definite manual you must follow. But if you have started your own blog and you’re looking to benefit from it, make sure you follow these rules carefully.
